1. Evaluation on the student’s reading
Student is a rote learner with possibly little understanding of the text - its meaning and context. Student is not a good listener of her own reading. She fails to make corrections in pronunciation, tone, articulation, speed and chunking as she progresses through the text.
2. Pronunciation of Syllables (tone, vowels and consonants)
Problems with vowels ‘a’, ‘e’, ‘u’ consonants ‘k’ ‘v’ and others.
3. Pronunciation of words(rhythm, intonation, stress and Light reading, change)
Limited use of intonation due to unfamiliarity with text. Stresses and rhythm vary according to familiarity of grammar, punctuation and vocabulary. Little evidence of overall control during reading possibly due to low‘word for word’ reading ability.
4. Fluency of sentences
Fluency affected by unfamiliarity of text, reading for a camera (audience) and misunderstanding of punctuation symbols. Speed is affected according to familiarity of grammar / vocabulary.
5. Room for improvement
Unless teaching methods / cultural attitudes are changed, the student will not improve. Current student problems are mainly due to lack of proper guidance in correct usage and effective training in listening / correcting own speech.
7. Suggestion to the student.
Student needs to first recognize their own errors by listening to themselves closely. Familiarity and confidence with own natural accent and fluency will help.
8. Disadvantages of the student that can be improved.
EX, “The big apple became the name of nightclub in Harlem city”
Note the ‘a’ pronunciation, grammar error, inappropriate chunking and lack of control in tone.
